Why the Arch Suits an Oxidised Finish

A prabhaval is fine, detailed work — the arch is usually carved with beading, scrollwork or flame edges around the figure, and all of that sits close together. A bright plating would flatten the arch and the deity into one bright mass, losing the very framing that makes the design special. Oxidising separates them: the dark drops into the carved lines of the arch and around Ganpati, so the enshrined figure reads clearly against its frame, exactly the way it does in a temple where the niche is dark stone and the murti stands lit within it.
