Traditional Oxidised Rakhi – Skin-Friendly Handmade Antique Finish

A traditional oxidised rakhi handmade in Satara, Maharashtra by Jija Designer Jewellery. Made from skin-friendly metal that is nickel-free and lead-free, so it sits comfortably on the wrist through the whole day, even on sensitive skin.

The rakhi a sister ties is the one thing in the ceremony she chooses herself. This design keeps to the traditional oxidised style — quiet, well made, and closer to jewellery than to festival decoration, so it does not look out of place next to good clothes.

Why Sisters Come Back to Oxidised

Bright rakhis photograph loudly and date quickly — you can usually tell which year a photo is from by the rakhi in it. Oxidised work does not have that problem, because the antique finish belongs to a tradition rather than a season. It is the same reason temple jewellery still looks right decades on. There is also the practical side: a brother who works with his hands, or who simply forgets to take things off, will get more life out of a metal rakhi in a durable finish than out of one built from thread and glued stones.

About Jija Designer Jewellery

Your Questions, Answered

That is the idea. A metal rakhi in a durable oxidised finish holds up far better than thread and glued stones, so many brothers keep it on well past the festival day rather than removing it that evening.
No. This is not 925 sterling silver. It is a skin-friendly alloy with an oxidised antique polish, designed to look like traditional silver-toned jewellery at an affordable price.
Yes. The metal is nickel-free and lead-free, so it is suitable for most people with sensitive skin. If you have a known severe metal allergy, please test-wear briefly first.
No. Skin-friendly metal with oxidised polish does not leave green marks the way low-grade rakhi metal does. Keeping it dry keeps it that way.
The finish is durable for the festival season and beyond with normal care. Contact with water, sweat and chemical polish is what causes fading — avoid these and it holds its colour.
Yes. The tie thread is adjustable and fits children, teens and adults.
Yes. Many customers order multiple rakhis for brothers and cousins, or pair it with a lumba rakhi for bhabhi. Add more from our Rakhi collection.
Yes. Jija Jewels ships pan-India from Satara, Maharashtra. Order early in the Raksha Bandhan week to be safe.
Yes. Because it is metal and not paper or plastic, it stores well and many families keep it as a keepsake or reuse it.

Care guide

Keep away from water, perfume, deodorant and oil — spray fragrance first, wear the rakhi after. Wipe gently with a soft dry cotton cloth after wearing. Do not clean with silver polish liquid, toothpaste, or a metal brush — this strips the oxidised layer. Store in a dry zip pouch or airtight box, away from humidity. Remove before bathing, swimming, or sleeping to protect the thread. If it dulls over time, a light dry buff with cotton restores the shine.
